Tsunami Hazard Assessment and Potential Risk Mitigation Requirement for Sea of Marmara Coastline

نویسندگان

چکیده

The westward movement of the seismic energy along North Anatolian Fault (NAF) during 20th century has increased probability that next activity will be offshore in Sea Marmara. According to historical records 35 tsunami events have impacted Marmara coasts (Altınok, et al., 2011). Offshore sources may trigger these tsunamis directly or through coseismic underwater failure. 1999 İzmit Bay led more comprehensive analyses which are generally caused by failures close target coastline. Waves so generated can arrive at nearby coastlines minutes, causing extensive damage and loss life. Here this paper proposes, on basis models methodology used internationally, inundation maps for areas light both remote sensing DTMs data. This investigation highlights information regarding most vulnerable tsunamigenic areas. Such selected help understand possible effects those regions should only evacuation planning reducing hazard

Tsunami hazard in the Black Sea and the Azov Sea: a new tsunami catalogue

Data on tsunamis occurring in the Black Sea and the Azov Sea from antiquity up to the present were updated, critically evaluated and compiled in the standard format developed since the 90’s for the New European Tsunami Catalogue. Twenty nine events were examined but three of them, supposedly occurring in 557 AD, 815 AD and 1341 or 1343, were very likely falsely reported. Most of the remaining 2...

Numerical Study on Tsunami Hazard Mitigation Using a Submerged Breakwater

Most coastal structures have been built in surf zones to protect coastal areas. In general, the transformation of waves in the surf zone is quite complicated and numerous hazards to coastal communities may be associated with such phenomena. Therefore, the behavior of waves in the surf zone should be carefully analyzed and predicted. Furthermore, an accurate analysis of deformed waves around coa...

Asteroid Impact Tsunami: A Probabilistic Hazard Assessment

We investigate the generation, propagation, and probabilistic hazard of tsunami spawned by oceanic asteroid impacts. The process first links the depth and diameter of parabolic impact cavities to asteroid density, radius, and impact velocity by means of elementary energy arguments and crater scaling rules. Then, linear tsunami theory illustrates how these transient cavities evolve into vertical...
